Thursday Night Football starts
November 5, 2008
The NFL Network’s “Run to the Playoffs” starts tomorrow, and NFL fans know what that means, one game will be played on Thursday instead of the customary Sunday or Monday night. The first appearance of the “Run to the Playoffs,” as the scheduling of NFL games on Thursday is known, was in 2006, with the Kansas City Chiefs beating the Denver Broncos on Thanksgiving day. Since then it has become a staple of the NFL season, and while negotiations go on every year, it does add one more day of football to the week, never a bad thing.
Kickoff for all games is at 8pm, with all but one of the rescheduled games happening on Thursday Night Football. A Thursday Night game will not be aired during the final Week 17. The NFL will not air games on Saturday so as to not violate the leagues anti-trust exemption, which does not allow NFL games on Saturday while College Football is happening. “Inside the NFL” fans will be happy to know that Chris Collinsworth will serve as the color commentator. Bob Papa will replace Bryant Gumbell as the play-by-play announcer.
The Thursday Night Football schedule for the remainder of the 2008 season is as follows:
Thursday November 6, Denver Broncos at Cleveland Browns.
Thursday, November 13, New York Jets at New England Patriots.
Thursday, November 20, Cincinnati Bengals at Pittsburgh Steelers.
Thursday, November 27, Thanksgiving Day, will see three Thursday Night Games, Tennessee Titans at Detroit Lions, Seattle Seahawks at Dallas Cowboys and Arizona Cardinals at Philadelphia Eagles.
Thursday, December 4, Oakland Raiders at San Diego Chargers.
Thursday, December 11, New Orleans Saints at Chicago Bears.
And Thursday, December 16, will see the Indianapolis Colts at Jacksonville Jaguars. There won’t be a Thursday night game during the last week, Week 17.
As most of these games will be broadcast on the NFL Networks, which approximately 27 people in the US currently receive, it is all the more reason to get yourself some cheap NFL tickets and see your favorite team live.
